COMMUNITY RESOURCES |
|
In times of personal difficulty, sorrow or crisis, to whom do you turn? Ordinarily, family and friends can offer a listening ear, but if your problems include those very people, or seem too overwhelming, where else might you turn?
Pastors are trained in basic pastoral counseling. We are taught active listening skills, supportiveness, and confidentiality. We hold you in our heart and in our prayers, and try to offer counsel from a spiritual perspective. We also learn when pastoral counseling is not enough and it is time to refer to a professionally trained counselor or therapist, doctor, or other appropriate professional.
Everyone needs help from time to time—even pastors! In some families, it is not OK to ask for needed help. Some do not recognize their need, fear what others might think, or pride themselves on working things out on their own. Don’t wait until you feel like the whole world is caving in on you! Speak to your pastor, or, utilize the community resources listed here as a start. God cares. The people of Wesley UMC care. Your pastor cares. Take a step to care for yourself. |
