Mission of the Month
Day by Day Shelter
The mission of the Day by Day Shelter is to provide temporary shelter, individual services, and opportunities for self-sufficiency to empower the most vulnerable adults in our community. Day by Day Shelter, Inc. was founded by a coalition of community members concerned about the lack of safe, temporary shelter for people experiencing homelessness in the Oshkosh area. With broad community support from local government, police, fire, faith communities and foundations Day by Day Shelter first opened its doors on October 15th, 2011. From the beginning the Shelters mission has been to support the most vulnerable individuals in our community. They strive to treat their guests with dignity and respect, while empowering them towards self-sufficiency and stability. As of May 2023, the shelter has more than quadrupled their operations from 25 beds open six months a year to 50 beds open 365 days a year.
MatMaking: On Tuesday afternoons we reuse plastic bags to make sleeping mats for those experiencing homelessness.
